I'm Locked Out! Will There Be Any Additional Fees Outside Of the Price Quoted Over The Phone?

With Janus Locksmiths, NO. Any price quoted over the phone is final. The price will never increase at the door, no matter how many locks there are to open, or how many doors we have to pass through, our price is the cost to get you back inside!

Last Time I Got Locked Out, Someone Drilled Out My Locks And Made Me Pay A Huge Fee!

This is all too common in lockout services around the world today. For many, being locked out puts you in a vulnerable position that too many are keen to take advantage of.

Janus Locksmiths offers a No-Drill guarantee: If you have simply left your keys inside and a functional lock ends up needing to be drilled (very rare for a reputable locksmith!) , we will replace your lock at no cost!

Protect yourself from scams with the following tips:

* Only hire someone with a Google My Business Profile (have a profile on google maps).

* Be wary of prices that are too good to be true (eg, $100 total price to unlock your door at 3am = too good to be true).

* Be skeptical of the businesses in the first 4 positions of Google Ads. Not all businesses here are scams, but they often rely on you clicking the very first link you see.

* Always check reviews before you hire a locksmith! All reputable locksmiths want you to be able to see their reviews, and try to get them in front of you. If you are unable to find reviews outside of those embedded in the website, do not proceed with that business.

* Ask to see a license - all locksmiths must have a license at all times. It is illegal to operate as a locksmith without the correct licensing, which requires a criminal background check and police fingerprinting. If you hire someone who cannot present a license, do not pay.

* Scammers will often put heavy pressure on you to pay in cash, and will not provide a receipt on request

Can You Replace My Damaged Locks Or Doorknobs?

Can You Install A Deadbolt On My Apartment Door?

In most cases, no. A deadbolt style lock cannot legally be installed in most apartment doors in NSW. There are two main reasons for this:

1. In the event of fire, if you run to the front door and realize you don't have the key to exit the front door, you will be trapped.

2. Most apartment doors are Fire Doors, which means that they are mostly made of solid, fire-retardant materials. A deadbolt style lock could, theoretically, be left with the latch out, which would prevent the door from fully closing, and allowing a fire to spread throughout the building.

We know the extra security is nice, but the law is clear. Things which impact fire safety are simply not allowed! In some buildings, a deadlatch style lock (the common, flat circular locks above the handle, with the silver box on the inside of the door) is OK.
